Arabic interfaces: common mistakes and their fixes

August 2, 20261 min readEl Karim

The most common mistake is treating Arabic as a translation layer. Right-to-left changes the whole layout: icon placement, arrow direction, table alignment, even the order of steps in a form.

The second is typography. Many typefaces that look great in English become unreadable in Arabic at small sizes. Pick an Arabic face designed for screens and test it on real, long copy.

The third is numbers and dates. Agree the numeral style and date format with the client up front — mixing them within a single page is what confuses users most.
